American vs Delta vs United — which airline to book for a paid US ticket
Hubs, basic economy traps, and when ‘the same price’ is not the same product. We ticket all three. We are none of them.
- Independent agency — not those brands
- Fees quoted before payment
- Agents available 24/7
- USA, Canada and the United Kingdom
Pick the hub you actually live near, then compare the fare family — not the logo. American (AAdvantage / oneworld), Delta (SkyMiles / SkyTeam) and United (MileagePlus / Star Alliance) all sell basic economy that strips bags and changes. Fareobuzz can ticket paid American, Delta and United flights at 1-888-620-4018. We are not those airlines.
Hubs and where each wins
| Airline | US hubs that matter | Often the cleaner paid choice if you… |
|---|---|---|
| American Airlines | DFW, CLT, ORD, MIA, PHL, PHX, DCA, LGA | Need oneworld (British Airways, Japan Airlines, Qantas) or Florida / Dallas connecting traffic. |
| Delta Air Lines | ATL, MSP, DTW, SLC, SEA, BOS, JFK, LGA | Want SkyTeam (Air France, KLM, Korean) or a dense Southeast connecting bank. |
| United Airlines | ORD, DEN, IAH, EWR, SFO, IAD, LAX | Need Star Alliance (Lufthansa, Air Canada, ANA) or Denver / Houston / Bay Area. |
If you live in a fortress hub, that carrier’s nonstop schedule usually beats a connection on a rival — even when the rival is $30 cheaper on a website. Missed connections are not theoretical on a 45-minute bank.
Main Cabin vs basic economy (the real comparison)
The useful comparison is rarely ‘American vs Delta.’ It is refundable vs standard vs basic on the flight that actually fits.
- Basic economy (all three): last boarding group, often no seat until check-in, change/cancel usually dead, bags extra. Fine for a weekend bag if you accept it.
- Main Cabin / economy: seat selection and changes according to that fare’s rules. This is what most callers think they bought.
- Comfort+/First domestic vs international business are different products. Do not compare a domestic first seat to a long-haul lie-flat.
Southwest is a fourth model (no basic economy in the same sense, bags included on many fares) and is not always agency-ticketable. We will say so if we cannot issue it. See airlines we book.

When the schedule breaks
Same-day rebooking power lives with the operating airline. An agency ticket does not make American reaccommodate you onto Delta for free. What we can do is work the original carrier’s inventory, or quote a new paid ticket if you need off that airline today.
Elite status helps at the gate. If status is why you stay loyal, keep flying that airline — an agency cannot gift you Delta Diamond.
How Fareobuzz tickets them
Call 1-888-620-4018 with airports, dates, and whether a connection is acceptable. We quote the airline fare plus our fee, name the fare family (basic vs main), and give you the airline record locator after ticketing. Confirm it on aa.com, delta.com or united.com.
Questions
Which is cheapest: American, Delta or United?
It depends on the route and day. There is no permanent cheapest of the three. Price the same dates and the same fare family.
Do you earn miles on agency tickets?
Usually yes on paid published fares if your frequent-flyer number is on the reservation. Award credit follows the airline’s rules, not ours.
Are you American Airlines?
No. Independent agency. Call 1-888-620-4018.
