Where travel savings actually come from

You will not find a countdown timer or a fake 'only 2 left' badge on this page. What follows is how travel pricing genuinely works, and the levers that reliably reduce what you pay.

  • No fake urgency or countdown timers
  • No inflated 'was' prices
  • Live quotes, not stale listings
  • Fees disclosed before payment

Quick answer

Travel savings come from four levers: date flexibility, airport flexibility, booking within the right window for your route, and choosing the correct fare type. Shifting a departure by one day, using a nearby airport, or accepting one connection typically saves more than any promotional code.

Fareobuzz does not publish static prices because airfare and hotel rates change hourly, and an unbookable advertised price is misleading. Call 1-888-620-4018 for a live quote on your specific route with the service fee disclosed separately.

  • Date flexibility: usually the single biggest saving
  • Nearby airports: often materially cheaper
  • Shoulder season: lower fares and fewer crowds
  • One connection: commonly cuts long-haul cost
  • Right booking window: varies by route, not by weekday
  • Correct fare type: basic economy is not always cheapest overall

The four levers that actually move the price

1. Date flexibility

The most powerful and most underused. Departing Tuesday instead of Friday, or returning Wednesday instead of Sunday, frequently changes the fare substantially on the same route with the same airline. When you call, give us a date range rather than a fixed date and we will price across it.

2. Airport flexibility

Most large US metros have two or three viable airports, and fares between them can differ significantly on the same day. Similarly at the destination end — flying into a secondary airport an hour from the city centre can cost far less. Worth it if ground transport is straightforward.

3. The right booking window

Sensible booking windows
TripBook approximatelyWhy
Domestic, off-peak1–3 months aheadCheap fare buckets still open, schedule settled
Domestic, holiday3–5 months aheadHoliday inventory tightens early
Europe, shoulder2–4 months aheadGood availability, moderate demand
Europe, summer4–7 months aheadPeak demand, fares rarely fall late
India / South Asia peak4–6 months aheadHoliday and family-visit demand is intense
Cruise, best cabin choice9–18 months aheadWidest selection and early-booking perks
Cruise, lowest priceInside 60–90 daysDiscounted unsold inventory, limited choice

4. The correct fare type

The cheapest headline fare is not always the cheapest trip. Basic economy with two checked bags and a seat assignment purchased separately regularly costs more than the standard fare that included both. We compare the all-in cost, not the headline.

Marketing tactics worth ignoring

Common claims and what they usually mean
The claimThe reality
"Only 2 seats left at this price!"Often a scarcity script, not live inventory. Sometimes true — but never a reason to skip comparing.
Countdown timer on the pageAlmost always resets when you reload. Designed to rush the decision.
"Was $899, now $499"The 'was' price is frequently a reference figure nobody ever paid.
"Cheapest fares guaranteed"An unprovable absolute claim. Nobody can guarantee it across every channel.
"Book Tuesday at 1pm to save"A myth from averaged data. Your specific route does not follow it.
Clearing cookies to get lower faresFares are inventory-driven, not cookie-driven. Widely repeated, not accurate.
Our position: we are trying to earn a call, not manufacture panic. If our quote is not competitive for your trip, we will say so and you should book elsewhere. That is a better long-term business than a countdown timer.

Where the value is right now

Seasonal patterns our agents see repeatedly. These are general patterns, not offers — call for a live quote on your route.

Caribbean, late spring

After spring break and before hurricane season, resort rates soften while weather stays reliable.

Europe, shoulder season

Late April to May and September to October: lower fares, fewer crowds, better weather than peak August.

Alaska, season edges

May and September sailings price below peak July while still offering full glacier itineraries.

Midweek domestic

Tuesday and Wednesday departures consistently price below Friday and Sunday on the same route.

City hotels, weekends

Business-district hotels discount Friday to Sunday when corporate demand disappears.

Business class, off-peak

Premium cabin negotiated fares appear most often outside peak leisure periods.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you list specific prices on this page?

Because any price we published would be wrong within hours. Airfare and hotel rates change constantly with demand, and a static 'from $199' figure that is not actually bookable is misleading advertising. We would rather quote you a real, current price for your specific route by phone than post a number designed to get a click.

Do you have promo codes or coupons?

We do not run coupon codes. Our pricing model is simple: the supplier's fare plus a disclosed service fee. Where we save you money it is by finding a better fare, routing or fare type — not by discounting a price we inflated first.

When are flights genuinely cheapest?

Shoulder season for the destination, midweek departures, and booking within the sensible window for the route — one to three months for domestic, two to six for international. Avoid school holidays, major religious holidays in your destination, and large local events. These patterns are real; day-of-the-week purchase 'tricks' largely are not.

Is it cheaper to book flight and hotel together?

Often, on flight-plus-resort combinations to Mexico and the Caribbean, where suppliers price packages jointly below the sum of the parts. Less often on city breaks where hotel rates move independently. We price it both ways and tell you which is genuinely cheaper for your trip.

Are error fares real, and can you book them?

Genuine pricing errors do occur, but they are rare, disappear within hours, and airlines sometimes cancel the tickets afterwards. We do not build a service around chasing them. What we can reliably do is find the best real fare on your route today.

Does booking on a particular day of the week save money?

This is largely a myth built from averaging unrelated routes. What consistently matters is how far ahead you buy relative to your route's demand curve, and how flexible you are on dates and airports. Being able to shift one day is worth far more than which day you press buy.
