Disruption recovery

Your flight was cancelled or you missed the connection. Here is the order of operations.

The people who get moving first are not the ones refreshing the app — they are the ones who know whether this is the airline’s problem or a new ticket. Use this sequence.

  • Independent agency — no airline ownership

Quick answer

If your flights are on one ticket and the airline cancelled or you misconnected, the airline must rebook or, if you decline a significant change, refund you. Call Fareobuzz at 1-888-620-4018 while you stand in the airport line so an agent can check other airlines in parallel. Separate one-way tickets are not protected — say that clearly on the call.

Order of operations

  1. Confirm whether everything is one record locator or multiple tickets. That fact decides the rest.
  2. Open the airline app and accept a reasonable rebook only if it actually gets you where you need to be.
  3. Get in the customer-service line or use the airline’s rebooking phone line.
  4. In parallel, call 1-888-620-4018 if Fareobuzz ticketed you. Say: cancelled vs missed, cities, today/tomorrow constraint, names.
  5. Do not check bags onto a new routing until the new boarding pass exists.

Same-day playbook lives on the last-minute desk.

What you are owed (and not owed)

  • Carrier cancel / significant delay: alternative transportation or a refund to original form of payment is the core US consumer right. Hotels and meals are often courtesy or contingent on the cause, not a blanket federal cash entitlement.
  • You missed the flight (voluntary): fare rules apply. Same-day standby or a confirmed change may exist; a free new ticket does not.
  • Self-transfer between two tickets: you own the miss. Budget for a new fare. This is why one itinerary matters.

What the agency can do that the gate cannot

Gate agents rebook on their metal and partners. They cannot always see a seat on a rival airline two gates over, and they cannot always refund an agency-issued ticket. An agency can:

  • Price a new ticket on another carrier if you decide to abandon the original.
  • File the involuntary refund if you decline the airline’s alternative.
  • Keep hotel or car reservations aligned so you are not charged for a no-show.

If you decide to buy new, you still have the original ticket’s residual value to sort — do not walk away from it. Booking support is the standing page for existing PNRs.

Questions

If the airline cancelled my flight, do I have to accept their rebooking?

No. You can usually accept the alternative they offer, or decline and request a refund to the original payment method when the cancellation or significant change qualifies. Ask for both options before you walk away from the counter.

I missed a connection on a single ticket. Who pays?

If both flights are on one ticket, the operating/ticketing airline is responsible for rebooking you. If you stacked two separate tickets, the second airline may treat you as a no-show.

Should I call Fareobuzz or stand in the airport line?

Do both if you can: one person in line, one person on 1-888-620-4018. Airport desks control same-day inventory; an agency can search other airlines and ticket an alternative if the original carrier’s offer is unusable.
